Streamlining task creation with natural language

I’m the sole designer on this project, working closely with a cross-functional team from research to final design.

For users

Setting due dates is important in task management.

Users depend on them to plan and stay organized—making them the top-used feature.

For business

Due dates are an important feature for driving engagement.

Our data shows due dates drive engagement—more due dates, more user activity.

Problem

Too many clicks to add a due date is one of the top reasons users stop using tasks.

Solutions

Set a due date using natural language- no clicks needed.

Users can set due dates by typing on the keyboard without needing to click.

01

A seamless experience across devices and touch points.

Smart Due Date is easy to access—whether from a note or the task modal, and works seamlessly on both mobile and desktop devices.

02

Recognizing the majority of commonly used dates formats.

System could understand over 35 different ways people write dates.

03

Assist the user without overriding their intent.

When users edit the due date on an existing task, user testing showed they prefer transparency and control—rather than having the system assume or override their intent.
